Proper Cleaning Of Screen Doors

Screen doors are not really difficult to install as opposed to the common misconceptions. It may even take only less than an hour to finish the entire setup. Don’t be afraid to assemble your own screen door as the above things will make sense once you get started.Screen doors provide additional security and even enhance the aesthetics of our home. And though we have the luxury to worry less about leaving the door wide open because of the protection it gives us, there can be a tendency for us to overlook the proper care and cleaning of screen doors. Little do we know, particles and dusts deposited on our screens accumulate when we neglect one important part: cleaning them. It’s not that really hard in addition to the fact that the tools to be used are mostly basic household items. The following are some of the things to remember for maintaining your screen doorsin clean condition.

Remove screen if able

For optimum cleaning, make sure to remove the screen from the security screens if ever possible. Most screens are removable by merely popping them out of the frame. There are screens that are fastened by screws, so a screwdriver or a drill can be used here. Once removed, carefully lay the screen flat on the ground gently. Carefulness is emphasized in order to avoid damaging the screen. If the frame is not removable, you can still clean it in place. Just never force it out or it may create damage on the door.

Dust if off

Vacuum cleaner is highly recommended in dusting off the screen, although sometimes a brush (possibly an old toothbrush) can be used. In cases that the vacuum is too short to cover all the area, use an extension cord for the cleaner. Never force the screen towards the vacuum, it must be the other way around. Brush or vacuum the screen on both faces. After all the visible particulates are removed, dust off once more to achieve maximum cleaning. Don’t forget to also vacuum the frames and the sill of the screen. You can even polish the frames with a wipe.

Wash with soap

Lift the screen upright if possible, or lean it to a wall or chair. For cleaning the screen, you can mix detergent with water. Don’t make the solution too strong as it may cause difficulties in rinsing afterwards. Use a sponge or a soft cloth in scrubbing the mixture onto the screen, but if there are stubborn spots, a brush can do the trick. The keyto scrubbing is to be thorough but gentle, especially for the delicate mesh from aluminium security doors. Like vacuuming, make sure to cover all areas. If there is a stain, bleach can be applied.

Rinse

Upon washing with detergent, rinsing all that soap is very important. When done wrong, the soap itself may leave a mark or stain on the screen when dried. Rinse by splashing it with a water hose or you can even use a bucket of water. Just make sure that all the particulates and soap have been rinsed out. If the screen is fixed on the door trim, pour water from inside the house so that the rinsed water is directed outwards.

Dry

Once rinsing is complete, dry the screen by leaving it exposed to sunlight. Once all the water on the screen has evaporated, wipe it with a dry cloth once more just to check if it has really dried completely. Your screen is now ready to be reunited with the screen assembly.Regularly clean your screen doors so that it can really last longer lest you let it gather and accumulate dust and other microbial deposits that may be unsafe for your household. You can do a thorough cleaning every two months. It’s really that easy.
